WanderOn Meghalaya Reviews: My Solo Trip As a Woman

Spread the love

Planning to go to Meghalaya for the first-time as a female solo traveller? I had the same worries you probably have. Is it safe for a solo traveller? Will a group of strangers be fun? What if it pours the whole time? (It did, a little.) Before booking, I compared other tour operators, and it was the WanderOn Meghalaya reviews that really convinced me to finally take my dream trip.

I spent eight days there on one of WanderOn’s Meghalaya tour packages, with a group of 18 plus a trip captain, on a loop that starts and ends in Guwahati. I read reviews before I booked, so I want mine to cover everything, including everything from what was the best or what could be better.

Why I Chose WanderOn for My Solo Meghalaya Trip

I am a rain person. Mist, waterfalls and wet green hills make me happy. Meghalaya means “abode of clouds”, so it had been on my list for a very long time. But Meghalaya is far from North India, and I was going solo. Safety came first, so I knew I wanted a tour operator. I looked for three things: a safe plan, a clear itinerary and honest feedback from other travellers.

So I went through many and many reviews of Meghalaya group tours. WanderOn stood out for its positive Meghalaya reviews and they were what finally made me book. A group tour also meant one less thing to think about. Hotels, transport and routes were not mine to figure out.

I booked the WanderOn’s Meghalaya Community Tour covering Jowai, Cherrapunjee and Kaziranga. Looking back, it was the best decision I made this year so far.

Root Bridges, Waterfalls and My Favourite Memories

My Meghalaya trip experience with WanderOn ticked off my whole bucket list. It was one of their Meghalaya group trips, and honestly, where do I even start? The living root bridges, obviously. They honestly do not look real at first. Trees grown into bridges! The trek to the Double Decker bridge is about 3,500 steps down, and every one of them is worth it.

Then the waterfalls. I love them, and Meghalaya is full of them. I could have stood there all day with the mist on my face, completely happy. Laitlum Canyons, near Shillong, gave me the first big view of the trip. It’s so dramatic that you’ll forget where you’re for a second. Deep gorges and the Khasi Hills are going on as far as you can see.

Mawlynnong was a favourite, so peaceful and so clean. The Dawki river was beautiful, and even the drives felt like part of the holiday, with misty hills rolling past the window. I also wanted to try cliff jumping, and I knew it was not that difficult. But I was scared, and my brain said no. So I picked a small cliff, took a breath and jumped. Was it tiny? Yes. Does it count? Absolutely.

Ask me for one favourite memory and I honestly cannot pick. The bridges, road trips, misty hills, waterfalls, cliffs and the Dawki river were all beautiful, and I will take every single one of them back home with me.

The Rain, the Long Drives and Other Honest Bits

My Meghalaya review cannot be complete without mentioning the weather. Heavy rain in Cherrapunjee made us halt the trip. We started again after half a day. That is the rain you expect in Meghalaya, so it depends on the weather. Since you have only one week there and want to cover everything, the weather can really affect your experience.

A few other things are worth knowing. Meghalaya looks small on the map, but the roads are slow. One drive takes four to five hours, and the sunrise day drives start with a 2 AM departure for Nongjrong. At the river camp in Shnongpdeng, you sleep in dome tents with a common washroom. And only some meals are included, so keep money aside for food.

What made the bumps easy was the team. I was impressed by how well the itinerary was planned and executed. Hotels and local logistics were handled smoothly. Our trip captain was always just a call away, and we hardly faced any issues. As a female solo traveller, that made me feel looked after and included. It matched the WanderOn Meghalaya reviews that made me book.

Was It Worth It?

Yes. My wanderon Meghalaya trip covered most of the major experiences this beautiful place has to offer, and I felt it was fully value for money.

I want to offer a few tips for first-timers trip to Meghalaya:
– You must carry a rain jacket and shoes with good grip. Wet paths and bridges get slippery.
– Keep a power bank and some snacks for the long drives.
– Book your return flight for the evening, because the drive back takes most of the day.
– Try cliff jumping only if you feel ready. Starting small is fine.

If you are reading wanderon reviews to plan your trip, my answer is simple: go. And if any of the Meghalaya tour reviews have you stuck between operators, let real feedback guide you, as it guided me. I am already looking forward to booking my next trip with wanderon as it genuinely exceeded my expectations this time.
